What we have is not so common but closer to regular and much better for the River, the Fish and the Earth than last spring. In 2001 or 2002 we guided the Yakima Canyon at 4800 – 5200 for a month or even 6 weeks and fishing was good. From the looks of it we may have a week or two of 6000 cfs and fast cold water to work with starting Late in June. Clarity has improved now to a whole 1 ft of vis but smoking by. Outdoor temps were in the low 40’s this AM and i can see the river dropping.
Looks like a couple more weeks of unfettered projects and waiting and of course the Bass fishing will scratch that itch!
June 13 and look how GREEN the Desert of Central Washington is simply amazing!
This leveling off of flows this week end maybe a look into the averages for a few weeks following. Lakes are still going over the spill gates, i assume when we get a little heat the irrigation will be flowing at max capacity. Farmers have already made their first cut of timothy hay even out in the basin farther without irrigating.
Never thought I’d see this rejuvenating of the water supply and surrounding shrub step lands.
After fires have ravaged this canyon and the surrounding Kittitas and Yakima Counties it’s a welcome sight for sure!
Looking forward to some clarity with a Turd and Worm rig!
